How do participants take a user test on desktop, iPhone, iPad and Android devices?

Our User Testing feature supports desktop browsers, iPhone, iPad and Android devices, giving you the flexibility to test any design across any platform.

There are some slight differences in how each device takes the test, let's go through them.

Taking a test on the iPhone or iPad

If you would like to test your prototypes directly on an iPhone or iPad, we have a few ways to help with moderated in-person testing or unmoderated remote testing.

Participants who test on their iOS device will be required to download the Marvel iOS app first to enable the camera and microphone recording. However, no registration is required and the app will automatically launch when a test link is tapped.

Your process for sending the test

  1. Open any User Test project
  2. Click Invite participants
  3. Share the link or send via email

When your participant receives the link on iOS

  1. The participant taps on the Marvel test link in your email or message on their iPhone or iPad
  2. They'll be taken to a page to prompt them to download the Marvel iOS app from the App Store before continuing. If they already have the app, they can tap on the 'I already have the app installed' button to launch the test.
  3. In the first step, they'll be asked for their name and email address
  4. The second step will ask them to give permission for Marvel to access the camera and microphone
  5. Once accepted, the participant is shown your intro message or task and prompted to click Start test
  6. The test will launch and begin recording

Taking a test on a desktop browser

If your participant opens your test in their desktop browser, they'll be able to test both mobile and web prototypes. This is because our test is responsive and enables the user to get the best possible experience no matter what type of prototype you have.

Your process for sending the test

  1. Open any User Test project
  2. Click Invite participants
  3. Share the link or send via email

When your participant receives the link on desktop

  1. The participant clicks on the Marvel test link in your email or message to launch the user test their desktop browser
  2. In the first step, they'll be asked for their name and email address
  3. The second step will ask them to give permission for Marvel to access the camera and microphone
  4. Once accepted, they'll be given a preview of the camera and audio working and be asked if they would like to continue with the camera and audio being enabled (if they say no, only the screen will be recorded)
  5. The participant is shown your intro message or task and prompted to click Start test
  6. The test will launch and begin recording

Taking a test on an Android device

Marvel supports Android's browser so no app is required to take the test. The process is exactly the same as for desktop devices so let's go through it

Your process for sending the test

  1. Open any User Test project
  2. Click Invite participants
  3. Share the link or send via email

When your participant receives the link on Android

  1. The participant taps on the Marvel test link in your email or message to launch the user test in Android chrome browser
